I am a Bariatric Coach and nationally certified Adult Nurse Practitioner. My intention upon graduation was to work with the bariatric patient as I personally understood the frustration and disappointment I felt when seeking help from the medical community. I too had tried many diets, again only to be disappointed in them and myself as I was never able to sustain ongoing weight loss. I am also a bariatric patient. I had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy and successful maintain a 115 lb weight loss. I live this life and understand the challenges. Morbid obesity is far more than a failure of self-control or lack of exercise. Bariatric Surgery is a first step toward regaining health. But surgery is only a tool – not a cure. Postoperative eating is a nutritional lifestyle change, not a diet. The real work is a journey - an adventure that comes from answering the question “am I hungry?” and 'what am I hungry for ?". I have counseled hundreds of bariatric patients in private practice and have gained a world of knowledge from their insights and experiences, their failures and their successes, as well as my own.
