As a dietitian, I've counseled hundreds of people who wanted to lose weight but struggled. They struggled not because they didn’t know what to eat but rather because they felt powerless to the food temptations and cravings. They were stuck in a cycle of restrictive eating followed by overeating.
Me giving them a meal plan wasn’t helping because it wasn’t addressing the underlying causes of the weight gain. Until I found the Am I Hungry? training, I didn’t have the right tools to help people tune in to why they were eating in the first place.
My interest in Mindful Eating is also personal. I grew up with a mother who was constantly dieting and saw her struggle with weight cycling and the guilt and shame that came with it. In fact, she still struggles with it at the age of 72.
I believe this influenced my career choice and my desire to help people take charge of their food choices.
