Melinda Shaver, Psy.D. Melinda Shaver is a full-time private practice Licensed Psychologist in Independence, Kansas. She has a doctoral and a master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University/Washington, D.C. Her doctoral dissertation was entitled, "The Relationship Between Childhood Trauma, Dissociation, and Obesity in Females With and Without Binge Eating Disorder". Psychology is Melinda's second career; her first career was in the field of exercise and health science. Melinda completed her undergraduate degree in Physical Education and her master's degree in Athletic Administration at The University of Tulsa. She earned a Doctorate of Education in Exercise Science from Oklahoma State University. Melinda spent fifteen years in the Washington, D.C. area. She gained experience in helping individuals with exercise and eating behaviors while managing fitness centers at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Georgetown University Law Center, and Washington Golf and Country Club. in addition, she was fortunate to have the opportunity to complete a two-year practicum assignment at the George Washington Weight Management Clinic under the guidance of Dr. Arthur Frank, M.D. In 2013, Melinda completed an educational program to become certified as an Eating Psychology Coach from the Institute for the Psychology of Eating. In 2015, she became a Licensed Am I Hungry? Facilitator. She plans to spend the remainder of her professional career focusing on mindful eating and the psychology of eating. |
