“By asking the deceptively simple question “Am I Hungry?” you open the door to a much deeper awareness and understanding of yourself. Once inside, there’s much to explore.” -- Michelle May, M.D., Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat, Introduction, page 2 How true! Almost daily I gain insights. Some are subtle. Some are more like the proverbial 2 X 4 that whacks me upside the head. This week was the realization that I’ve had a fundamental uneasiness with hunger. I’ve never fully understood how much I’ve misinterpreted fullness for security in the past. It’s like I’ve been using overeating as a way to get an illusionary hug, a way of feeling safe and content. Of course, in truth, it is the opposite, overeating can drain my energy, damage my health and stand in the way of my living fully and being my best. New behaviors may take time to feel natural, but I’m on my way to getting comfortable with comfortably full.
