Charlene is a journey of mindful health and self-care

Tomorrow is my husband’s and my 23rd wedding anniversary. Yesterday, he asked me if I’d like to go to one of our favorite local restaurants to celebrate. Of course I said, “Yes!” As I look forward to spending the day with him tomorrow reminiscing and celebrating, I am very grateful for the calmness, clarity and ease in my anticipation. Because I’m not dieting, there is no inner dialog in which I’m trying to convince myself to choose the lowest calorie item on the menu and just focus on his company rather than the other wonderful menu items. There is no need to give myself permission to indulge just for tomorrow so I can fully enjoy myself. Instead, I’m simply looking forward to savoring both the meal (whatever I choose from the menu) and our time together, and allowing the occasion to be purely a celebration, rather than burdened with diet rules or rebellion, restriction or repentance. Every day there are moments like these in which I am reminded and so thankful for my continuing journey to a healthier relationship with food and with myself because of the insights I’ve gained through the Am I Hungry?® mindful eating program.
