Charlene's Journal

Charlene is a journey of mindful health and self-care

Acceptance, compassion, and encouragement

Here’s today’s reason that I love the Am I Hungry?® program:

So many diet books and programs advise us to lose weight for ourselves, then go on to describe, or show pictures that imply, how their definition of looking good makes us more attractive to others. They tell us to decide how much weight we want to lose, then print charts that tell us how much we should weigh and give us formulas to calculate how long it will take us to reach that weight. They tell us to love ourselves, but their very premise is that until we reach that idealized goal, we’re just not quite good enough.

Am I Hungry?® teaches us that optimal health is not the same for everyone, guides us back to listening to our own inner wisdom, helps us become aware of when and how to make the choices that are genuinely right for us as individuals, all while whispering words of acceptance, compassion, and encouragement in our ear.

It isn’t hard to figure out which approach really means what they say.
